ICGH-4 Overview and Appreciation
Yasuhiko H. Mori (Chair, ICGH-4)
The Fourth International Conference on Gas Hydrates (abbreviated ICGH-4) was held at the Yokohama Symposia, Yokohama, Japan, from May 19-23, 2002. I am taking the liberty to say that the entire program of the conference was completed with success. More than 290 people (153 from over the sea) attended the conference. One keynote paper and 204 general papers contributed from 19 countries were presented. The 204 general papers may be classified as follows:
Exploration, Resources and Environment | 55 papers |
Fundamentals: Thermodynamic Aspects | 28 papers |
Fundamentals: Kinetics | 26 papers |
Fundamentals: Structural Studies | 20 papers |
Fundamentals: Physical Properties | 19 papers |
Fundamentals: Multiphase Mechanics and Heat/Mass Transfer | 18 papers |
Hydrate Formation and Prevention in Pipelines | 17 papers |
Hydrate-based Technologies | 22 papers |
However, the most important factor for the success of the ICGH-4 is not in such statistics mentioned above but in the atmosphere to encourage the audience to make earnest and frank discussion on each presentation and also to exchange ideas during the poster sessions, free discussion hours and coffee breaks. As the chair of the conference, I would like to thank all of the people who actively participated in the conference, thereby inducing such a hot, scientific atmosphere in the conference.
